Being in a bridal party is a wonderful and very exhausting thing. Ultimately, all the work is worth it, especially for your bestie. But it’s hard to DIY all the things you need to make, make it to all the fittings, be there for the breakdowns, and still have a job. Most bridsmaids are all too familiar with a garter belt DIY or two. Anyone with experience knows they are not always as easy (or as beautiful) in reality as the DIY online makes them look.
This time, you’ve stumbled upon a supreme garter belt DIY. Building upon a wide stretch lace ribbon, with hand sewn rosette beads – this is as comfortable as it is feminine and stylish (and it’s easy, soo easy!).
For your own 3D Rose & Lace Garter Belt DIY you’ll just need a spool of stretch lace ribbon,
A package of multi-colored rosette beads,
A pair of scissors,
A hand sewing needle and thread,
And my surger sewing machine, with thread.
To begin my 3D Rose & Lace Garter Belt DIY, I opened my lace ribbon and wrapped it around my thigh. Once I approximated how much lace it would take to wrap my leg tightly, I marked the length with my finger before I unspooled it next to my ruler. Then, I used the ruler to mark the center and to help guide a straight cut.
With the correct amount of stretch lace ribbon cut, I opened my pack of rosette beads, and gathered my hand sewing needle and thread. After my needle was threaded, I started to sew the rosettes to the stretch lace, one at a time. After I had carefully sewn on each rosette, I was ready to put the garter together.
I folded the garter belt in half, keeping the right-sides together (and the wrong-side facing outward), and I brought the cut edges together. With the edges together, flush, I pinned them in place.
Using my surger sewing machine (although I could have done a zig-zag stitch with a regular sewing machine), I sewed the edges together.
Once it was sewn into a tube, I turned it right-side out and I was done!
It took less than $10 for the materials, and only an hour or so to sew the roses on the elastic lace, which was more than worth-while – just look at the results! This 3D Rose & Elastic Garter Belt DIY is both classic and modern, femenine and feisty, lacey yet so comfy — any bride would be lucky to wear this unique garter belt (under her dress), and any member of the bridal party would be lucky to be in charge of this DIY.
