Ann Shen wrote a brilliant book, entitled Bad Girls Throughout History. Not only was Chronicle Books was not only brave enough to release this book, but a collection of products featuring the brave Bad Girls Throughout History. Of coarse, I want every-single-thing (they’re available at the Chronicle Books website).
Cementing the idea that Angelo and I are soul-mates, he actually bought me the rad stationary set for our anniversary. Loving to spread the word of femenism, the Bad Girls Throughout History note-cards give me life!
In the book, Ann Shen, she profiled one hundred women who changed the world forever. From Aphra Behn (the first female writer) to Joan Jett (legendary punk), she highlighted the bravery of one hundred women who embody femenism. Each one had to jump through hoops, and break down barriers, to do what they did then and for us to do what we do now. Assigned the “stigma” of Bad Girls Throughout History, we see now that they were heroes.
Especially in this day and age. With the #metoo movement, and rape culture being shamed into non-existence, it’s more important than ever to look back at the women that made this progress possible. At the same time, we can see what the heroes of today may have to face (being called “Nasty Woman”, anyone?) in order to gain true equality even further into the future.
The Bad Girls Throughout History note-cards are a lovely way to say hi while also sharing in the progressive movement. I love the ten women they chose to profile – Angelo chose them knowing my own personal hero, Maya Angelou, is featured (who will I send those to?!). Each forward-thinker gets two cards, and this little photo gallery shows them off.
