Coffee-lovers or coffee–obsessors? Hmm…I’m not sure. Either way, Angelo and I are forever on the hunt for the perfect coffee, and the best coffee shops in Southern California. The good news for you with a more healthy relationship with coffee, we will continue to obsess and search and bring even more of the best coffee shops in Southern California, but these are the best we’ve visited, so far!
Cold brew coffee is life. Finally, there is a coffee shop that truly understands that. Home Brewed Bar in Pasedena, California, uses cold brew coffee and tea to make all of their drinks – including the hot ones. Pair that with the welcoming staff and you’ll see why it’s our new home away from home.
Coffee is not associated with tranquility nearly enough. Most coffee shops perpetuate the frenetic energy of our busy daily lives. They’re basically like, “here’s your boring coffee, now go to your boring job!” Not Tocaja in Claremont. They have hand shaken drinks, homemade whipped cream, board games and even a peaceful stream out back.
Peet’s Coffee & Tea are masters of the small-batch game. With locations throughout Southern California, and they’re freshly roasted coffee beans in most grocery stores, they make it easier to have quality coffee on a daily basis.
Klatch Coffee could teach classes on coffee. Oh, wait, they do. Klatch Coffee is a serious presence out here, in Southern California. This once small company has gathered an elite group of coffee masters, who not only work at their various locations, but they teach others everything from the roasting beans to latte art. So you know whatever you order, it’s going to be good.
Butter Cafe & Bakery is the future of dining. This cafeteria style cafe puts everything into the quality ingredients and friendly staff. No unnecessary frills, just delicious, fresh coffee and huge portions of mouth-watering comfort food.
Leave it to the land of sound stages to concoct the hipster paradise that is Coffee Commissary. They have multiple locations, in Southern California, but we had the chance to visit them in Burbank. This location is known for being stocked with freshly baked breads and pastries (they may have the best chocolate chip cookie, like, ever) but they’ll also make you a sammy or pour over a little coffee, fresh, to order.
If you are a cyclist who loves coffee, I am sorry if you’re only hearing about Cycle De Pro, now. It’s a high-end boutique, carrying everything you need for a top-notch ride or coffee high. The bicycle chairs will lure you in, but the perfect cold brew will bring you back, again and again.
Located in LACMA, in downtown Los Angeles, Coffee + Milk could be mistaken for a modern art installation. I mean, that also serves gourmet coffee, pastries and sandwiches. Everything is perfection at Coffee + Milk, and I still dream of their coffee shake and Nutella croissants.
Closest to our house, and closest to our hearts, Rad Coffee was the first we covered, and it’s the last on the list, but Rad Coffee is at the top of the coffee game. Since we covered them, for the blog, they have only grown and improved. A mecca for anyone looking to add some delicious creativity to their coffee. Why have a boring coffee when I can have a Bones Brew or Great White (and, yes, they are as magnificent as they sound)? This is one of our favorite coffee shops in Southern California, and maybe one of our favorites, anywhere.
