If we find something we love, we tend to share it. When Angelo found Jersey Girl homemade guitars, he showed me, and we were both obsessed, immediately.
The artistry in each guitar is undeniable, and looking over their catalogue (of past and present guitars) is like walking through an art gallery. Even within a series, each and every guitar has their own unique look and personality. If you’ve never loved a guitar you will fall in love with one of the Jersey Girl handmade guitars. Forget needing to be a musician, these works of art deserve to be dis-played as much as played.
My love for Jersey Girl homemade guitars isn’t limited to their guitars. I think I might be an even bigger fan of their Instagram feed. Known as small-scale farmers, as well as luthiers, this team shares gorgeous photos from their garden and their work-shop. Peppered in with pet-cat, wild bird and growing heads of lettuce–the Jersey Girl homemade guitars Instagram feed shows an in-depth look at the process. It is so inspiring to watch true artists at work. Plus, they have this cute, little wooden bird that helps in the work-shop, garden and even plays with their cat. I love him.
But I really wanted Angelo to share a little bit about what initially drew him to Jersey Girl homemade guitars.:
For me, these guitars stood out among guitar manufacturers. It seems like most boutique gutiar shops are obsessed with re-creating styles of guitars, that existed in the past. Which, don’t get me wrong, I can be a big fan of, especially if they do it well.
When we talk about Jersey Girl homemade guitars we are talking about original design. Not just the shape of the guitar, but the pick-ups, the neck (with it’s fret board inlays); it’s that they are 80% wood and so many other guitars are filled mostly with filler-plastic or metal. These luthiers use so many different types of wood, allowing them to play around as much with the look as with the tone. Plus, they hand-make each component – every badge, strap, single-coil pickups, pretty much everything.
That they are so well-rounded. It is evident in their Instagram feed- they are making serious works of art, and they are meticulous, but, at the same time, they have an obvious sense of humor that is conveyed in each image. That same dynamic exists within each guitar. If they didn’t have their sense of whimsy, to counter the seriousness, they probably wouldn’t venture out to do such colorful and unique patterns, such fun guitars.
With price tags starting at 8,000 – they are a steal.
These artists make single and double-necked guitars, acustic and electric, simple and intricate, and every guitar is amazing. Defintitely check out the work of Kaz, Akiko, Eiko & a little luthier HAL at their website and on their Instagram feed.
