When I first saw something by Victoria Siemer, I thought what is this witchcraft? Come to find out this is an artist that goes by Witchoria on Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. Then, I was like, snap! she is magic.
Victoria Siemer isn’t just manipulating images in photoshop, she truly is creating art. She enhances her photos slyly, invoking feelings universally human. The haunting, floating neon signs with snarky statements; the faux-polaroids, the landscapes turned on their heads – they all look strange but, somehow they feel right. I don’t know how she does it, but Victoria Siemer knows what this world needs, better than itself. Only she would realize that landscape needed a sharp angle to really look right. Or that constillations should form soul-bearing text.
Her heart may not be on her sleeve, but it is all over her photographs. Victoria Siemer doesn’t shy away from expressing her deepest and darkest thoughts…and it’s liberating to see. It’s hard not to identify with her work (at least for someone as cynical as myself) and it’s even harder not to adore it. If you haven’t felt heartbreak, you may not get it (and good, for you, I guess). For the rest of us, looking at Victoria Siemer’s work is like hanging with your bestie, in art-form.
Most pictures are worth a thousand words. Victoria Siemer makes pictures worth a million. I can’t be the only person who looks at her photos and thinks she gets me!
Make sure you check out this artist’s website, and keep up with Victoria Siemer on Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr. When you find the one that says everything you’re afraid to – you can buy the print, and let your artwork do the talking. Effing brilliant.
